Baby hat, brother bonding

We took Otter to the "hozbiddle" this past weekend, both for follow-up blood tests and to visit the birthing center where the new baby will make his first on-air appearance, so to speak.

During the tour Otter got of the birthing center, he became quite nervous upon seeing the warming table device they use in the birthing rooms to check out the newborns. G and I think this may be because it bore a certain resemblance to the X-ray platform Otter was subjected to for his sinus X-rays.

To distract him, our very nice nurse/tourguide pulled out one of the hats they put on babies when they're born. She told Otter that this tiny cream colored stretch-y hat was for his little brother.

When we went into the solarium/waiting room area where family and friends can wait during labor, I sat down in one of the armchairs, as walking much is getting to be more and more of a "where's the nearest chair" adventure for me. Otter came over, tried to pull up my shirt, waved the hat at my tummy, and said,

"Baby come out now!"

because he wanted to put the hat on the baby.

Apologies and not-apologies

I wanted to apologize for not posting for so long. It's been a busy month, what with our mini-vacation and my summer admin job, and on top of that, I've heard a couple things lately about my parenting and me lately that left me feeling a bit exposed when I sat down to write.

So here is where I say: I do not apologize for how I am raising my kid. It might not make sense to everyone in our lives, it might not work for other families or other children, but so far, knock on everything wooden I can find, it's working fairly well for us.

Now, moving on...
